Impressive Carbine Club Plate win

Classy three year old filly Deroche made a one act affair of the time-honoured Carbine Club Plate over 1200 metres at Ladbrokes Park racecourse at Royal Elwick on Saturday February 1. The eye catching win further emphasised her domination of sprint races in her age group in Tasmania this season.

The daughter of Needs Further raced outside of Sidorova to the home turn where jockey Craig Newitt allowed her some rein. She cruised to the lead and when Newitt gave her a squeeze in the home straight, she quickly put the result beyond doubt and went on to win by two & three quarter lengths. Newitt said the filly was never out of third gear. "That was just so easy for her and she is starting to relax more in her races and that's going to help her when she steps up in grade later on", Newitt said.

Deroche has won seven from 10 starts and three of those wins have come from just four outings this preparation.

Carbine Club of Tasmania President Steve Adermann presented the stunning trophy to the winning connections following the race and said the Club was proud to have been the sponsor of the feature event for a long time.

The Carbine Club Plate for three year olds with set weights, was race three on the 2020 Schweppes Tasmanian Derby Day race card - the first meeting on the new $12.5m StrathAyr thoroughbred track.

The meeting was postponed by a day, due to the temperature reaching 42 degrees on Friday January 31.
